Moyale Barracks Athletics Coach Always Zingile has retained his seat after he was re-elected as Northern region Athletics Chairperson during the annual general meeting at Mzuzu City Mayors Chamber.

The election was presided over by Justice of Appeal Sylvester Kalembera, Malawi and Electoral Commission, MEC.

Zingile got 18 votes against Josephy Malume who managed to amass only 12 votes.

In his acceptance speech Always Zingire thanked those who voted for him and promised to lead the region with distinction.

“Thank you for entrusting me with a four year second term of office that will help me develop the sport further, I need your support to excel,” he said.

In his remarks the presiding officer Justice Sylvester Kalembera said the elections were free and fair and called those desatisfied with the poll to write to his committee within seven days.

In other results Alick Phiri beat Emmanuel Mvula 17-13 to win Regional General secretary, while Thandiwe Mbeya beat Sebastian Nyirenda for Vice Secretary.
