Wives of serving soldiers at Moyale Barracks on Tuesday conducted a charity outreach in Mzuzu, donating assorted essential items to military widows and wives of retired soldiers as part of their annual community service activities.
The outreach, led by the wife of the Moyale Barracks Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Clement Ngalonde, Mrs. Thandiwe Ngalonde, was aimed at strengthening solidarity and providing support to families who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation.
Speaking after the event, Mrs. Ngalonde said the initiative forms part of the annual activities undertaken by the women’s wing at the barracks.
“Every year we conduct women’s activities, and one of our key responsibilities is to engage in charity work. That is why today we came to cheer and support our fellow soldiers’ wives, some of whom lost their husbands while others are wives of retired soldiers,” she said.
Mrs. Ngalonde described the outreach as a milestone, saying it was the first time such an initiative had been organised by the Moyale Barracks soldiers’ wives.
“We are very happy because this is the first time such an initiative has taken place at Moyale. I would like to thank the Mama Brigade Commander for allowing us to carry out this charity work. We are pleased that today we have fulfilled our dream of reaching out to these women,” she added.
Chairlady of the Chitemwano Group, Mrs. Rosemary Nyondo, thanked the serving soldiers’ wives from Moyale Barracks for remembering retired soldiers’ families and military widows.
“We are truly grateful for this gesture. It shows that we have not been forgotten, and it gives us encouragement and hope. We sincerely thank the Moyale Barracks soldiers’ wives for their kindness and generosity,” said Nyondo.
More than 30 women benefited from the outreach, with each receiving a pack of assorted items, including eggs.
Mrs. Ngalonde was accompanied by the wife of the Moyale Barracks Second-in-Command, Mrs. Banda, the Adjutant’s wife, Mrs. Mwanza, and other women from Moyale Barracks.
