Moyale Barracks has emerged victorious in the 101 Brigade Match and Shoot Competition, earning the right to represent the brigade at the national competition scheduled for October in Lilongwe.

The competition, held on Friday at Moyale Barracks, brought together teams from three units under 101 Brigade, Chilumba Barracks (11MR), the Engineering Battalion and hosts Moyale Barracks (3MR).

Moyale Barracks finished first, followed by Chilumba Barracks in second place, while the Engineering Battalion finished third.

The competition is designed to assess a wide range of military skills and capabilities, including endurance, voice procedure, tactics, first aid, map reading, obstacle courses and shooting.

As part of the shooting component, snipers engaged targets at distances of 100, 200 and 300 metres, testing their accuracy, concentration and ability to perform under demanding conditions.

Speaking at the end of the competition, 101 Brigade Commander Colonel Mabvuto Chimbayo said the exercise provides an important platform for identifying the brigade’s best personnel to compete at national level.

“This competition gives us an opportunity to identify the best snipers and personnel who will represent 101 Brigade at the national competition,” said Chimbayo.

He said the different components of the competition help assess soldiers beyond shooting ability, ensuring that those selected are capable of demonstrating a broad range of military skills.

“We are not only looking at shooting. The competition tests endurance, tactics, voice procedure, first aid, map reading, obstacle crossing and other important military skills,” he added.

Moyale Barracks will now represent 101 Brigade at the national Match and Shoot Competition in October in Lilongwe, where it will compete against the best teams from other Army formations.
