101 Brigade Commander Colonel Mabvuto Chimbayo has challenged sports teams from Moyale Barracks to begin preparations immediately to defend the overall title at the 2027 Malawi Defence Force Sports Festival.

Colonel Chimbayo made the remarks on Friday during a celebration organised by Moyale Barracks to honour teams that excelled at the 2026 Malawi Defence Force Sports Festival held in Salima, where 101 Brigade emerged overall champions.

“As your Brigade Commander, I am ready to provide all the support you need so that preparations for the 2027 Sports Festival begin now. Our goal is to defend the trophy,” said Chimbayo.

He also commended team leaders, coaches and athletes for their dedication, discipline and commitment, which contributed to the brigade’s outstanding performance.

Speaking at the event, Moyale Barracks Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Clement Ngalonde described Moyale Barracks as the home of some of the Malawi Defence Force’s finest athletes, saying this has enabled the unit to consistently perform well in both military and national sporting competitions.

Moyale Barracks hosted the appreciation party to recognise the achievements of teams that represented the brigade during the 2026 Malawi Defence Force Sports Festival in Salima, where 101 Brigade was crowned overall champion.
