Standard Bank of Malawi has invested K6.2 million towards the refurbishment of Moyale Barracks Nursery School in Mzuzu, in a move aimed at improving the learning environment for children at the institution.

The investment is part of the bank’s efforts to promote early childhood education and provide children with a safe, brighter and more stimulating environment for learning and development.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Friday, Standard Bank Mzuzu Branch Manager Joseph Manjolo said the project targets about 120 children aged between one and six years.

Manjolo said the refurbishment works include painting the school, providing suitable seating for children and supplying learning materials.

He said Standard Bank believes that investing in early childhood education is essential in laying a strong foundation for children’s future development.

Speaking on behalf of the Moyale Barracks leadership, Second in Command Major Zacheus Banda thanked Standard Bank for the support, saying the nursery school requires significant resources to provide quality education to children.

Major Banda also commended the bank for its continued support to the Malawi Defence Force through various interventions, particularly in the education sector.

He said the investment was significant not only for education but also for sports development, noting that many athletes and footballers who have gone on to represent Moyale Barracks started their educational journey at the nursery school.

“The future of good athletes starts from nursery schools,” Major Banda said, highlighting the importance of creating a strong foundation for children who may later develop their talents in sports and other fields.

He said the support from Standard Bank would contribute to creating an environment where children can learn, grow and develop their talents from an early age.
