Moyale Barracks Sports teams are geared to defend this year’s Army Sports Festival which has been scheduled from Monday in Salima.
The 3 Malawi Rifles of 101 Brigade won the three-day Sports party at Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) in Lakeshore district of Salima last year and the teams are optimistic that they can retain the championship to Kaning’ina Forest this year.
Moyale Barracks comprises of more sports disciplines which include Football, Netball, Taikwando, Volleyball, Tag of War, Basketball, Run truck and many others.
Speaking before leaving Mzuzu for Salima all coaches in different sport discipline shared the same word of coming back with medals.
Always Zingire Athletic coach said his team is going there not as tourists but to bring Gold medals home.
“Moyale athletics relay race team is fully prepared to complete and win the Gold medals, we are not going there as tourists but to compete and win medals.
Long jump, triple jump, shot put, Discus and Javelin all events will bring the medals,” Zingire said.
Football team coach Gerald Gondwe AKA Kampingi said this time his side is well prepared.
“Last time we lost in semi final, we learnt a lesson thats why this time we are much prepared and we believe my boys will put much effort to win all games,” said Gondwe.
Hockey coach also promise to defend the trophy again.
Last year Moyale Barracks shares an overall trophy with Parachute Battalion.
The Army Sports Festival is an annually event that all Malawi Defence Force units compete.
