Moyale Barracks Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Clement Ngalonde has urged athletes from the battalion to continue training hard and maintain their fitness following their impressive performance at the just-ended Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Sports Festival held in Salima.

Ngalonde made the remarks on Thursday during a trophy handover ceremony after Moyale Barracks emerged overall champions at the annual sports festival.

“Let me assure you that as long as I am here together with our 2IC, we will continue supporting you. Let us not relax, but keep training hard so that we defend and win more trophies next year,” said Ngalonde.

He also encouraged teams that did not perform well during the competition, particularly the Tug of War and Hockey teams, to remain focused and work harder ahead of future tournaments.

“To the Tug of War and Hockey teams, there is always another chance. Keep training hard and come back stronger next time,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the teams, CSM WOII Benjamin Kaluwa thanked the battalion leadership and the Commanding Officer for the support rendered before and during the competition.

“We are grateful for the support and motivation from the command. It played a big role in our success at the festival,” said Kaluwa.

Several Moyale Barracks teams performed exceptionally well during the tournament, including football, volleyball, basketball, relay races, and track and field events. However, the Tug of War and Hockey teams were eliminated in the early stages of the competition.

Moyale Barracks won the overall trophy and received a cash prize of K5 million.

The Malawi Defence Force Sports Festival is an annual sporting event that brings together various army units from across the country in Salima.
