Moyale Barracks 3MR, under 101 Brigade, secured third position in the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Inter-unit Tactical, March and Shoot competition held at Choma Galley Range in Mzuzu.

Selected teams of soldiers from various barracks across the country participated in the event.
The competition required participants to march 200 kilometers on foot from Luwaladzi Academy in Nkhotakota to the Choma shooting ground, where the final contest took place. It aimed to identify the best snipers from all units in the service, with cash prizes totaling K11 million awarded to the winners.

1MR Cobbe Barracks claimed the top prize of 6 million Malawi Kwacha, while the Armour Battalion secured second place with 3 million Kwacha. Moyale Barracks took third place, earning 2 million Kwacha.

MDF Commander General Paul Velentino Phiri, who graced the event, emphasized the importance of such training exercises.
“It is very important to have this type of training for several reasons. First, soldiers thrive on the principle of ‘practice makes perfect,’ so regular practice is essential. Even during peacetime, we must prepare because we often have deployments to the DRC and other places within Africa. This training encourages us to be ready.”

Phiri highlighted that the training helped soldiers refine skills such as navigation, map reading, firing, command and control, field craft, and tactical movement.
He also announced that starting next year, the competition will be renamed the “Commanders Challenge Cup.”
