After 15 years of dedication between the posts for Moyale Barracks FC, veteran goalkeeper Olisy Nkhwazi has officially retired from active football, bringing an end to a remarkable chapter in his career.

Nkhwazi’s emotional farewell came on Saturday shortly after Moyale’s match against Silver Strikers FC, where he symbolically handed over his iconic jersey number 24 to rising goalkeeper Joseph Chilongo. The gesture marked both the end of an era and the beginning of a new one for the club.
The former Chintheche United shot-stopper expressed pride and satisfaction in his decision, saying he leaves the pitch with a full heart after years of commitment and growth.

“I am happy today to finally hand over my jersey number 24 to Chilongo. Moyale has taught me so much and completely changed my life. I leave behind great memories and achievements, including winning trophies with the team,” said Nkhwazi.
Throughout his career, Nkhwazi established himself as a dependable figure in goal, playing a key role during some of the club’s most successful periods. His leadership, experience, and discipline made him not only a fan favorite but also a mentor to younger players.
Transitioning from player to coach, the Malawi Defence Force soldier will remain with the club, joining the technical panel as Assistant Goalkeepers Coach. His new role is expected to strengthen the development of upcoming talent within the team.
Meanwhile, Joseph Chilongo, the man entrusted with the number 24 jersey, expressed gratitude and determination to live up to the legacy left behind.

“I am honored to receive number 24 from Nkhwazi. He has set a great example, and I will work hard to follow in his footsteps and contribute to the team,” said Chilongo.
Nkhwazi’s retirement not only marks the end of a distinguished playing career but also signals a smooth transition of experience and leadership to the next generation at Moyale Barracks.
