Moyale Barracks FC coach, Prichard Mwansa, has expressed confidence that his team is fully prepared to secure a win against their city rivals, Mzuzu City Hammers, in the much-anticipated Mzuzu Derby.

Speaking just hours before the crucial kickoff, Mwansa acknowledged the strength of the Hammers, describing them as a formidable side. However, he was quick to affirm his team’s readiness to rise to the occasion and reclaim bragging rights in the city.

“We know that the Hammers are a good team, but we’ve prepared well for this match. I’ve told my players that we need to go out there and show our worth, to prove that we deserve to win,” said Mwansa.

Reflecting on past encounters, Mwansa recalled their triumph over the Hammers in 2021, expressing optimism for a repeat performance.

“We beat the Hammers in 2021, and it’s about time we beat them again. Even though they are a strong side, we are determined to defend our title as the kings of the city. A win on Saturday is a must for the Kaning’ina Lions, and those three points will significantly boost our position on the Superleague table,” he added.

The Mzuzu Derby has always been a fiercely contested affair, with both teams vying for local supremacy. Fans from across the city are expected to fill the stands, eager to witness which side will emerge as the dominant force this time.

For Mwansa and his Moyale Barracks FC squad, the goal is clear: to emerge victorious and solidify their status as the City’s football champions.

Meanwhile, Mzuzu City Hammers coach, Kondwani Ikwanga, stated that his team is equally prepared for the showdown against Moyale Barracks FC.

“The game against Moyale is very, very important for us as Hammers. We are ready for the game, and everything is set. We have trained hard over the past weeks and addressed the issues that cost us in previous matches. Our supporters should come in large numbers to cheer us on, and we will give them the performance they deserve,” said Ikwanga.

As it stands, Moyale Barracks FC is in 9th position, with 32 points from 23 games, while Mzuzu City Hammers hold 3rd place with 39 points from 24 matches.
