The 3rd Battalion of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF), Moyale Barracks, has emerged champions of the 10-kilometre 2026 MDF Inter-Unit Cross-Country Championship held at Gymkhana Golf Course in Zomba.

Led by 2nd Lieutenant Boniface Chiwaya, Moyale Barracks topped the men’s category, outperforming strong competition from other MDF units.

The victorious team featured Ben Mulungu, Clement Banda, Aron Nyasulu, and Ndacha Mchelenje, who together etched another historic milestone for the Kaning’ina-based unit.

Expressing his delight, Moyale Barracks Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Clement Ngalonde praised the team’s dedication and fighting spirit.

“I am super excited and extremely proud of the team. Their fighting spirit was unimaginable, and we thank God for rewarding their hard work with this victory,” said Ngalonde.

The event was officiated by MDF Deputy Chief, Lieutenant General Kondwani Gift Kalino, and attracted 234 athletes drawn from 20 MDF units. Each unit fielded 12 runners six men and six women who competed in the 10-kilometre race.
